How many plumbing vents are needed

How much frost? I don't have a clue. Also, I'd advise where possible to connect as many vent pipes to one large pipe so you only have one hole through the roof, if possible. Less holes, less possible water leak entry points in roof.

The plumber did say that adding 1 3" should be enough but if I ever finish off my roughed in unfinished bathroom which would be a full bath as well I really needed to have 2 3" vents. I figure I'll add the vents now even though I'm not sure if I'll ever finish off that bathroom, but might as well have them add the second vent while they're here.

LittleBill join Goodbye Spectrum Internet The critical distance , or how far the fixture can be from the vent pipe, is determined by three factors: the size of the pipe that codes require, the type of fixture you want to install, and the number of fixtures that are already wet vented on the same line. Measure the length of the pipes carefully and consult a plumbing inspector to determine whether wet venting is possible.

Vent pipes, often narrower than drainpipes, need not slope like drainpipes. Normally they run level or plumb unless there is an obstacle to work around. Vent pipes must be installed so they stay dry. This means that they should emerge from the top of the drainpipe, either straight vertically or at no less than a degree angle from horizontal, so that water cannot back up into them. The horizontal portion of a revent pipe must be at least 6 inches above the fixture's flood level, or the highest point to which water can rise.

On a sink, the flood level is the sink rim or overflow hole. Plan drain lines to minimize the possibility of clogs. These in turn lead to the main stack, which is the largest pipe of all typically 4 inches. Because the main stack is also vertical, it will rarely clog. Water travels downward through the stacks to the main drain line, an underground horizontal pipe that leads to the municipal sewage system or to a septic system.

In older homes, the main drain might be made of clay pipe or other porous material. Tree roots sometimes work their way into the main line, causing wastewater to back up into the house. The solution is to call a company that specializes in augering main lines. A true vent pipe must remain dry while water runs down the drain. A wet vent also serves as a drain line but is large enough that it never actually fills with water. Most of my vents are through comp shingles or cedar shakes. That's kind of sad.

Terry , Jun 30, If it does NOT have an individual vent, then 18' is 12' too far. If it DOES have a vent within 6' of the trap, then you can go as far as you have to to reach the sewer connection. That is why we would have to know HOW you are routing the piping, before we can give an answer. Your plumbing inspector is completely useless and must be the brother of the mayor, because if he does NOT know what is permitted, how can he possibly tell if ANY installation is proper?

The minimum is 6, before the test can be taken. If you had half that time working with a "real" plumber, then you would be getting closer to understanding what we have been saying. Right now, it's like discussing plumbing with the hack that stocks the Home Depot plumbing department. They think that because the stand in front of plumbing parts, that it qualifies them as a plumber. I sat in front of the teacher in school, but was considered a "student".

The teacher had teaching credentials. Help me out here. Who is a teacher on the site that can tell us what has to be done before you get your own classroom. Author: hj AZ The question is ambiguous because the number of fixtures on a vent depends on how they are connected together, not their quantity.

Author: Patrick CA Hello HJ, Would you please elaborate what you mean by "the number of them on a single vent is usually limited by their spacing. Author: dlh TX yes there are distance requirements that have to be met and the distance depends on how many fixture units and how far for what size. Author: packy MA see if you can make any sense out of this Author: hj AZ No, but there is only so much pipe available to connect the various fixtures so if you try to put too many together you will run out of space to do it.
